BBS Approved treatments

Overview

There is no cure for Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS), a complex genetic disease marked by obesity, vision problems, and other symptoms. However, several treatments are available to help ease symptoms, prevent further complications, and improve quality of life. Currently, one therapy is specifically approved for BBS.

Imcivree

Imcivree (setmelanotide) is a therapy approved to reduce excess body weight and maintain long-term weight reduction in children and adults with BBS. Administered through under-the-skin injections once a day, it is designed to reduce hunger by restoring activity in the MC4R signalling pathway, which controls appetite and energy use.
