Elena Christofides, MD, explains why early intervention is important in aHO before severe weight gain becomes harder to manage.
Transcript
Treating early is critical because once severe obesity has set in, it is much harder to reverse it and to stabilize the weight gain otherwise.
So I would say that as soon as you notice a change, it’s always easier to be reevaluated again in the future if something doesn’t show up — much harder to say, bring someone back from the brink of severe obesity after they’ve already gained 50, 60, 70, 100 pounds.
The damage to your body from the severe weight gain can sometimes be irreversible and becomes much more frustrating for both you and your provider to try to find medications or lifestyle interventions that might benefit that.
It’s much easier to sort of stop that progression before it really gets out of hand.
